Inlay is a technique used to add additional color, or interest, to a rug. I stabilize the accent fabric, either printed or plain, and cut it into thin strips that are laid into the shed on top of the regular weft. It is time consuming, but the results are worth it. A printed picture, or an original design, can be incorporated into a rug or wall hanging.

The moose image on this rug is a commercial fabric meant to be made into a pillow. The design on the right end of the rug is plain fabric, picking up the pattern in the corners of the picture.
The hem is card weaving, or tablet weaving, in a pattern that compliments the rug.
For this nursery rug, a gift for my niece's first baby, I used a border print fabric and inlaid the strips the full width of the rug on both ends.
The wolf rug uses a pillow top, too. It has a twisted weft accent near the top of the rug.
This rug was a special gift for my favorite community supported radio station....... WXPR 91.7 Rhinelander, WI.
The volunteers and staff donated clothing for this rag rug. I copied the station logo, enlarged it and printed it on transfer paper. After the logo was ironed on a piece of fabric, it was cut into strips and inlaid over the weft picks as I wove the rug.
Everyone had fun trying to find the fabric from their clothing in the rug.
